“I will start applying this training…”

Many of these leaders have already established connections with networks of local churches in their region. One of the participants excitedly said as he was leaving…

“Tonight, I will be back in my village. I will start applying this training in the small house churches in my area. My goal is to bring out a new Bible story each week to these house groups. Second, I will have them recite the previous week’s story before we move on to another story. In the next four days, we will teach our Sunday school teachers to use this method. Third, we will also use this method for our elderly and youth ministries. Fourth, we will change the traditional methods and songs in our church to these stories and new songs from the Bible stories.”

The Gospel is Spreading

Leaders like this young man will now take the oral Bible strategies they have learned back to their communities. They will use them with their own families and neighbors too. The Gospel is truly spreading through these men and women of peace (now SIU partners.) These men and women are located across Southeast Asia. BUT we have a long way to go! These emerging and new partners need funding. Without funding they will not be able to train more local believers how to effectively communicate God’s message to unreached, oral-based people groups.

The region of Southeast Asia is geographically defined by the organization Joshua Project (www.joshuaproject.net). Their definition includes the 11 countries of Brunei, Cambodia, East Timor, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar (Burma), Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam.

Seeking to Finish the Task

According to Joshua Project, of the 1,824 different people groups located in these countries, approximately 718 (close to 40%) of them are unreached and unengaged people groups. This 40% represents a population of about 331 million. AND they are primarily from oral cultures. Which means traditional Western, literacy-based methods of evangelism and discipleship do not work. SIU and other ministries working in the Orality Movement hope to see these 718 unreached people groups reached and engaged as soon as possible. It is important to us as we seek to finish the task of the Great Commission across all regions of the earth.

Your Gift Tripled!

Recently, we were blessed—and challenged—by a generous foundation. The foundation has pledged to match every dollar given to SIU’s work in Southeast Asia by year end 2 to 1, up to $40,000.

That means, if we raise $40,000 from caring friends like you, the foundation will contribute another $80,000. This money will be used to train indigenous partners to take the Gospel to people who have never heard it before. We will train these new leaders to communicate Bible stories in a way that resonates with unreached and unengaged hearts!

As we approach the end of 2018, we know you will have many opportunities to be generous with all that the Lord has provided to you. We ask your prayerful consideration in joining us to reach the unreached in Southeast Asia with a generous year-end gift. Your gift will help to meet this amazing foundation challenge. Your gift will not just be doubled—it will be tripled!
